Tillandsia

Tillandsia are epiphytes or air plants--they grow without soil. Tillandsia was named by Carolus Linnaeus after the Swedish physician and botanist Dr. Elias Tillandz (originally Tillander) (1640-1693).

Christina's World

[after the painting "Christina's World" by Andrew Wyeth]
A torn body come to rest,
beached on a uphill slope
and with a sigh
the heart's hope
twists towards the high horizon.

White Cliffs of Dover

Cold cliffs
in a grassy sea,
worn down in a faster time
to their watery grave.

Boxwood Light

Green scoops
catch the far-off gold,
filled to silvered cups.
Flint without heat,
the flame turned to a softer burn,
icy at a distance,
mellow to the touch
lending their glory
to the day.
